Workshop Safety Officer

Reporting & Context
Field-based role operating within machine shop and fabrication areas in an Oil & Gas or manufacturing environment (GCC). Full-time field presence — 8 hours/day, 6 days/week.

Job Purpose
Ensure safe operations across workshop and fabrication areas through rigorous field safety activities, hazard identification, permit auditing, and enforcement of safety standards and procedures.

Key Accountabilities

Machine & Equipment Safety: Enforce machine guarding standards (fixed, interlocked, adjustable barriers); manage LOTO procedures during maintenance/repair; oversee point-of-operation hazard controls for cutting, shearing, and shaping activities.

PPE Management: Ensure correct use of specialized PPE; enforce compliance with workshop-specific safety instructions (Eye Protection Policy, LOTO, etc.).

Accident Prevention: Conduct toolbox meetings; participate in Job Safety Analysis; report incidents in HSEQ Synergi system; participate in incident investigations; produce incident reports; follow up on corrective actions.

Safety Inspections & Hazard Identification: Perform daily safety tours covering machine shop interiors/exteriors (manual lathes, welding bays, tool rooms); monitor machine operators and technicians for unsafe practices (interlock bypassing, improper tool use); participate in scheduled and unscheduled safety walks.

Permit Auditing: Audit Hot Work and Maintenance Permits for adequacy; report deviations related to fire safety or equipment isolation to the company representative.

IMS Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with applicable HSEQ standards and company safety regulations.

Education & Experience
NEBOSH Diploma with valid NEBOSH IGC Certificate, or Diploma in Industrial Safety Engineering from a recognised institution. 3–5 years of experience in electrical, welding, instrument, and machine shop safety (GCC-based, Oil & Gas or manufacturing sector).

Technical Competencies
Demonstrated expertise in machine guarding, LOTO procedures, point-of-operation safety, and PPE management. Ability to conduct field inspections, safety audits, and permit reviews in high-risk workshop environments.

Behavioural & Language Requirements
Proficiency in English (read, write, speak). Computer literate. Field-oriented profile capable of sustained 8-hour daily operational presence.
